With your DIY tool assembled in the order described above, thread it into the insert until it bottoms out. This won’t work well if the hole is too big. (1) Nut - larger than the bolt threads so it will just slip over the bolt. (1) Flat Washer for under the head of the bolt. (1) 1”-2” bolt that is the same size as the threads of the rivet nut. Here's what you'll need make a cheap and simple tool Here, we’re going to show you how to make a DIY tool using a nut, bolt, and two washers found at any hardware store. Unless you plan to install a lot of rivet nuts over time it probably doesn’t make sense to go out and buy a tool to do it. Here at our facility we use an expensive, special tool to quickly install rivet nuts where needed. If those cases, you’ll need to install one or more of the inserts we provide. Occasionally, the truck may come with holes in the panel but no threaded insert. Our S/I Side Steps for trucks utilize these factory-engineered locations (and others) for easy and secure installation of the steps. For example, on late model Dodge Ram trucks you might find nut inserts installed by the factory on the back side of the rocker panel for mounting side steps. Threaded inserts are used by truck manufacturers in numerous places to attach parts and accessories to sheet metal components. Once assembled and properly mounted on your truck, it makes for an extremely strong and rigid installation. At Spyder Industries we use them in the steel tubing of our headache racks for pickup trucks so that you can bolt the adjustable bed rails (or mounts) to the bottom of the rack. Rivet nuts are often used in thinner gauge materials where strong, load-bearing threads are needed to fasten pieces together or where there’s no access to the back side for a traditional hex nut. Initially they were sold under the trademark name RIVNUT®, but today you’ll find various brands in numerous shapes and sizes as a type of blind fastener. Sometimes they're simply referred to as threaded inserts, or generically as Nutserts® (which is also a trademark brand name). This handy little fastener was developed by BF Goodrich in 1936 to mount rubber de-icing boots to the leading edge of aircraft wings. A heavier duty tool would be required to install the harder steel or hardest stainless steel 1/2-13 rivet nut.Ah, the rivet nut. Example: Install tool may be set up for a 1/2-13 rivet nut, but tool is only capable of installing a soft aluminum 1/2-13 rivet nut, and can not install a harder steel or hardest stainless steel 1/2-13 rivet nut. Note: Material type of fastener is critical. Please consult us on your exact fastener and application to assure you invest in the most capable tool for the job. These are considered consumables of the tool, please keep backup(s) on hand! Mandrel & Anvil required for each thread size. Unified & Metric Thread Capabilities: C722 As the hex key is turned the tool exerts a linear pull stroke to install the RIVNUT® or PLUSNUT®. The C722 & C845 wrench type rivet nut installation tool installs the RIVNUT® or PLUSNUT® using a simple wrench to hold the tool and a hex key to apply torque.

Giordano’s is constantly making headlines, both in Chicago and nationally. The reason is that this carryout spot uses a 48-hour cold-fermented sourdough. But as the ’90s Bulls can attest, dynasties end, and George’s is legitimate competition for the best deep dish in the city. Over the next 40 years and counting, millions of happy and loyal fans as well as hundreds of critics call Giordano’s the city’s “best” stuffed pizza! The rest is history you can still taste today, along with our other great starters, fresh salads, outstanding pastas and unique sandwiches. As we mentioned, Pequod’s is our favorite deep dish in Chicago. In 1974, on Chicago’s historic south side, Efren and Joseph opened the first Giordano’s in the world. The brothers introduced their Mama’s recipe for stuffed pizza. Years later, Italian immigrants Efren and Joseph Boglio moved to Chicago to start their own pizza business. This pizza pie became a sacred tradition in the Giordano family and a legend in the town of Torino. Mama Giordano would serve this double- crusted, cheese stuffed masterpiece on special occasions. Of all her renowned dishes, her most beloved meal was her “Italian Easter Pie”. Mama Giordano was famous around town for her exquisite cooking. Its creation began in a small northern Italian town near Torino, Italy. The recipe for Giordano’s now-famous stuffed pizza is one that has evolved over 200 years. Serving up their famous stuffed deep dish pizzas, as well as other pizzas and classic Italian favorites, Giordano’s on Navy Pier is a great spot to enjoy the flavors of Chicago with family and friends. The quickest example is of the Welsh Spearman and bowman from a series of land grants of Henry 2nd, each is only wearing one shoe. There is a significant historical tradition of depicting the other people's of the island as backwards and savage. This is a somewhat loaded question, particularly when dealing with non English parts of the British islands. If this was the case, then yes, it could be that they were barefoot throughout the warm months and wore something on their feet during winter to protect against the cold. Maybe the article was only talking about summerwear, when shoes would have been obsolete, but that is not specified anywhere. Although, as I have stated in my original post, there is a lot of information missing from my side, so I can't say anything conclusive on the matter, but I also cannot simply assume they would've worn closed off shoes like later Europeans did. It might imply a different kind of intelligence, so no stupidity at all. I'm noticing open sandals being worn in the north and a British museum article stating that women and children did not wear shoes (in the periods discussed in the article), not just an absence for the evidence of shoewear, but a denial of the presence, so that makes me wonder if these historic peoples dealt with the cold differently. I hear what you say, but not protecting the feet such as we do today does not mean being dumber than modern people. Perhaps if women and children were indoors in the winter then perhaps they didn’t have much use for shoes but I would love to see more research and documentation about that… everything else you read about the peasant class was that “everyone worked” and “all hands on deck” all the time because they had to if they wanted to survive the harsh winters People had to be tougher, for sure, and the body can toughen up (just look at Wim Hof and barefooted runners) but it’s not like we evolved into some strong rubber footed ape beings in the medieval ages so that we could get away with bare feet all year long I also wonder and would question about texts written about the poor… the bias against them was real and I wouldn’t be surprised if the “poor wear no shoes” was one possible line of snooty commentary from the rich I just don’t see the Poles, the Sami, the Finns, or other Nordic countries getting away with bare feet all year-long simply because many extant examples don’t exist.Ĭountry and even regional differences existed - we can’t expect a medieval Spanish person to have had the same experience as a medieval Danish person, for example a lot of extant examples of clothing do not exist - especially for poorer classes because they wore clothes until they were rags. No way folks just walking around losing toes left and right. You can get frostbite as soon as the temps dip to just below freezing. I would have added a similar comment.Įspecially if we talk about any Northern countries that get snow and harsh winter temps… There was SOMETHING on the feet in winter. Photo by Dr Owen Humphreys, Kingston University London and AHRC We also see the Roman elite wearing open sandals, even in Britain and Germany, so it appears as though shoewear was more of a fashion statement than a necessity.ĭoes anyone know more about this? Some of the latest gauge tuners even have a built-in driving coach that offers tips that help develop positive driving habits to improve fuel economy. In the particular model tractor that we have, it would be worth the expense to mount these units in all the trucks with that engine.” Since we run about 600,000 miles a month, potentially the monthly savings could be huge. “We mounted a Bully Dog programmer on one truck and saved about 8 cents a mile. “Right now, our fuel costs are about 72 cents per mile,” said Joe Parks. “Our customers who have installed the tuners tell us there’s a 90-day payback on them.”įor a fleet like that of Pilot Transport, which operates several trucks, the savings add up quickly, according to Bully Dog Technicians. “These tuners boost power and torque, but improved fuel mileage is the main advantage up to more miles per gallon,” said Dave Brown of Piedmont Peterbilt LLC in Greensboro, N.C. These devices operate by monitoring turbo boost pressure, engine RPMs, coolant temperature, airflow, fuel rail pressure and other operating considerations such as trailer load and then balancing these parameters by changing the electronic tuning characteristics of the engine management system to yield optimized performance. Purchased as an aftermarket item, a programmable tuner is essentially a single-purpose mini-computer that includes an on-dash or window-mounted monitor and control panel, along with the necessary leads to connect with the stock engine control module. Some models offer a “gauge” that the driver can view while driving to see exactly how the device is helping. “Programmer” refers to the ability to go beyond the vehicle’s firmware to adjust the engine’s “tune” to the specific needs of the driver. The term “chip” references the silicon integrated circuit at the heart of the device. A diesel truck engine tuner is used to manage and optimize engine performance on diesel trucks. Whether known as programmers, engine performance tuners, chips or gauge tuners, these are small electronic devices. What exactly are these things and how do they work? Given today’s price of fuel and the escalation of power outputs, do engine programmers really deliver the goods? Bully Dog Technologies answered some frequently asked questions about diesel truck engine programmers to help fleet owners make an educated decision.ġ. “I have seen a notable increase in fuel economy with the gauge tuner unit we have about 15%,” said Joe Parks, general manager of Romulus, Michigan-based Pilot Transport-a division of United Road Services Inc. Regalo My Play Portable Play Yard: This Regalo play yard is a comparable product if you are simply looking for something to provide your baby with space to play. Verywell Family / Ashley Ziegler Competition: It depends on what you’re looking for A lot of it has to do with the baby’s size and development, though. There seems to be a sweet spot between 3 months old and 9 months old (give or take). On the other hand, a baby who is able to pull up and is ready to explore may be too big for this. It would be difficult to safely lift or put down an infant in this play yard since it’s so low to the ground. This particular model is strictly the play yard (no changing table), so it’s great for a baby who is a little older and has head/neck strength. Even if your baby doesn’t meet these criteria but you know your little one is a little rambunctious, you should use your judgment to determine whether or not they have the strength to tip the unit over if they were to roll around or pull up and shake it.Īge Range: Less about age and more about size There is definitely a tipping hazard if you have a little climber on your hands, and that is obviously a major safety issue. Graco clearly notes that babies 35 inches and taller, weighing more than 30 pounds, and/or who are able to climb should not use this product. From the fastening straps on the mattress to the mesh siding, down to the carefully padded metal bars, parents really don’t have much to worry about-unless their child is over the height, weight, or development limits. Graco seems to have put a lot of thought into this play yard’s design because it has a lot of safety features. Verywell Family / Ashley Ziegler Safety: No need to worry (as long as you follow instructions) While the carrying bag can be machine washed, the mattress pad will have to be wiped down if it gets dirty. The carrying bag then fits over the folded-up mattress, which has a handle sewn onto the side and zips up to create an easy-to-carry crib in a bag. When it’s not in the play yard itself, the mattress folds into a rectangular position, which encases the play yard frame when it’s torn down. It has adhesive straps that lace through the bottom of the frame so that it will stay in place to avoid safety risks. The mattress pad is surprisingly plush (not as plush as an actual mattress, of course, but not just a hard surface either). The space between each metal piece is held together with a mesh fabric that allows for airflow and transparency in the play yard itself and keeps the space safe for a sleeping baby should they press their face up against it. The frame is made with strong metal pieces and covered with a canvas-like fabric. The basic model comes with the play yard frame, a mattress pad, a removable pocket, and a carrying bag. Verywell Family / Ashley Ziegler Design: Durable and convenient I'm really happy with how the cover photo of Beck came out. But the sound quality is fantastic for a 1968 live recording, and the band was on fire.Ġ5 Jeff's Boogie (Jeff Beck Group) It's true this concert is short, only 32 minutes long. You can hear Beck mention at the end that Moby Grape was going to come to the stage next. They weren't well known yet - their first album "Truth" came out several days AFTER this concert - so they only had a short opening slot. I found set lists of some other concerts they did around this time with the exact same songs in the same order. The one downside to this concert is that it's relatively short. That's why the first song has "" in the title, although in fact I made many edits to all the songs. I used the BBC version of that song, which I've also posted at this blog, to fill in that missing part. Finally, the first fifteen or so seconds of the first song, "You Shook Me," were missing. I also boosted what little banter there was between songs. That was the case here, so I boosted the audience reactions at the ends of songs quite a bit. But one problem with excellent soundboards is that they sometimes capture the sound on stage so well that barely any audience cheering is heard. This is an excellent soundboard bootleg, overall. But now they come through loud and clear.īut I made some other edits as well. And on "Morning Dew," there were parts where Stewart's vocals were so low they could barely be heard at all. He's a lead guitarist, not really a singer, so I suspect his microphone was turned down lower. For instance, Jeff Beck sang only one song, "Hi Ho Silver Lining." His vocals had to be boosted more than Stewart's. That's because some areas needed much more volume boosting than others. So, using the audio editing program X-Minus, I went through the entire recording line and line, and made lots of little adjustments. In this case, I thought the lead vocals were too low in many places. I'm more than willing to go further and tinker with whatever I think makes a recording sound better. Some people, such as those two, are purists who only want to fix technical flaws. However, that version still had big sound quality issues, in my opinion. In 2023, I found a recently posted version that was edited by Captain Acid and Professor Goody to fix speed and pitch issues. It has gotten around publicly, including with several grey market releases (meaning they look like official releases but the original artist has no say and gets no profit). This is easily the best sounding bootleg from when Rod Stewart was a part of the Jeff Beck Group in the 1960s. |
